The proposal for this project, currently in Planning stage, is to replace an existing two-storey dwelling with a new three-storey modern beach house. The house is approached via a courtyard garden which creates a private secluded space in contrast to the expanse of beach to the front. The principle living quarters occupy the ground floor with cantilevered elements projecting outwards to offer sheltered external seating areas with large sliding glass screens.
The first and second floor contain family and guest sleeping accommodation with large external decks orientated to catch the sun and enjoy the unique panoramic sea views.
The massing of each storey is designed to respond to the adjoining buildings and create an assemblage of interlocking volumes. The building structure will be a specialist load bearing frame clad in natural timber and anchored to the ground on a white masonry and flint wall base. The off-site manufacture of the timber frame will reduce construction times on site, limiting exposure to the elements in this highly exposed location.
